Here's a
photo of the upcoming 2006 Mitsubishi
Raider uncovered over two months before its expected debut at the
2005 North American International Auto Show.
Our assessment:
looks like DaimlerChrysler isn't going to let Mitsubishi design a truck
the way they want to. The Raider doesn't bear much more than a passing
resemblance to the wildly distinctive Mitsubishi
Sport Truck Concept that caught everyone's attention at this year's
Detroit show. We thought Mitsu would at least work in some of the neat
styling of the STC into the lights, especially the fog lamps.
Overall they're
sticking pretty close to the styling of the brand new 2005
Dodge Dakota, that serves as the basis for the Raider, but watered
it down just enough so that it wouldn't really interfere with Dodge sales.
The doors look the same but the rear box sides, fenders and hood are different.
The nose has that Nissan industrial feel.
The Raider
will be available with the same 210 hp / 235 lbs-ft 3.7-liter V6 and 230
hp/ 290 lbs-ft of torque 4.7-liter V8 engines that power the Dakota. Cab
configurations will include four-door extended and full four-door crew
versions, with the choice of two- or four-wheel drive.
