Weld Racing Wheels
was founded in 1967 by Greg Weld, a 23 year old USAC National Sprint Car
Champion. Greg began manufacturing racing wheels for his brother, Kenny's
Sprint Cars. The Weld Family has an extensive racing tradition; from Greg's
father and his brothers Jerry and Kenny, and later in sons Taylor and
Brock.
The experience Greg accumulated during his racing career would serve him
well in the continuing development of Weld Racing Wheels. This knowledge,
combined with a keen sense of style, a natural aptitude for engineering
and an insatiable curiosity fueled the growth of the company.
As traditional ruling markets reached their full potential, Weld Racing
turned its attention to new, untapped areas. This led to the development
of Cold Forged Billet Aluminum wheels for Street Rods, Sport Trucks, Heavy
Duty 4x4 Trucks and a wide variety of Custom Street applications.
With this broadening
of the product line came the necessity to accelerate the development process.
Over the last 3 years new equipment was installed: sophisticated CAD/CAM
systems, over 30 CNC machines, heat-treating equipment, state-of-the-art
welding equipment, and sophisticated high-tonnage forging systems to augment
an already outstanding array of manufacturing equipment and systems. Today,
Weld Racing has design flexibility that is unsurpassed in the entire international
wheel industry. A new design can be taken from concept, to drawing board,
to computer program, to working prototype in four days.
Today, Weld Racing
performs virtually all manufacturing operations "In-House" in its 250,000
square foot facility. It is indisputably the largest manufacturer of aluminum
and magnesium racing wheels in the United States; and quite possibly,
the world. However, Greg Weld and his superb team will not sit on their
laurels. New technologies are being investigated, new markets will be
approached and new challenges will be met.
