Expect to see
Cadillac enter the $40K+ Sport Utility Pickup Truck segment in mid-2001
with this Lincoln Blackwood fighter.
Cadillac's
Sport Utility Pickup will be built on the GMT804 platform - the
same platform as the new Chevrolet
Avalanche which made its debut this past January in Detroit.
A unibody design integrates the cabin and bed together for a more
rigid vehicle. It is not yet known if Cadillac will also use the
Midgate for possible access directly
to the bed.
The truck will
sport the same edgy design as seen on Cadillac's Evoq sports car
concept from the 1999 North American International Auto Show. That
same styling will
set it apart from its more conservative GM siblings the Sierra and
Silverado pickups.
Power will
probably come from the new Vortec 8100 8.1L V8 engine generating
340 horsepower and 455ft-lb of torque.
With the Chevrolet
SSR production bound and elements of the GMC Terradyne destined
for future work trucks, GM will have the entire pickup truck spectrum
covered with the addition of this Cadillac.
