PickupTruck.Com
has come 'very close' with this exclusive illustration of the
next generation Chevrolet S-10.
Sporting
the same front end treatment as the 2001
Avalanche the new S-10 portrays itself as much more aggressive
in appearance when compared to the current S-Series. Note the
beveled fenders which are also more muscular than today's truck.
In sheer
dimension the S-10 will grow a notch to compete more on the same
level as the Dodge Dakota, in the midsize segment, as opposed
to its position today, in the compact segment, where it competes
directly with the Ford Ranger. A crew cab version of the truck
will also enter production to compete in the hot sport utility
pickup market.
The standard
engine in the S-10 will be the venerable Vortec 4300 4.3L SFI
V6, producing 190hp and 250lb-ft of torque. For heavy hitting
S-10 owners the 4.8L V8 (270hp and 285lb-ft of torque) will be
available as an option - the same as found in the Chevrolet Silverado.
Two brand
new engines are supposed to accompany the S-10: a 3.6L inline
six, which will be introduced in the second year of production,
and a 4.2L DOHC inline 6 with 4 valves per cylinder.
