Chevrolet Announces Prices For Innovative Avalanche

DETROIT, MI - Chevrolet announced that its all-new 2002 Avalanche, the only vehicle on the planet that can transform from a six-passenger sport utility vehicle to a full-size pickup, will have a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) beginning at $30,965, including destination charge.

Avalanche will be available at the end of May with initial allocation going to California, Florida and Texas. Nationwide availability begins in July 2001.

"With Avalanche the customer gets two vehicles for the price of one," said Ed Schoener, Avalanche brand manager. "Avalanche can be configured as either a six-passenger SUV or as a three-passenger full-size pickup truck with an eight-foot protected cargo box – by one person, without tools and in seconds."

Avalanche's unique attributes include:

Midgate - Avalanche personifies spontaneous adaptability with Chevrolet's revolutionary Convert-a-Cab System and industry-exclusive Midgate. When the rear passenger seat is folded, the Midgate can be lowered to allow longer and larger cargo. Folding down the Midgate allows the 5'3" standard bed length to convert to a full 8'1", long enough to carry 4' x 8'; sheets of plywood.

• Three-piece rigid cargo cover - Interlocking panels can be used to cover and protect the cargo box and its contents from the elements.
• Removable rear window - The rear window can be removed and stored in the Midgate, providing the capability to carry larger items such as a personal watercraft- with the tailgate closed.
• Lockable Top-Box Storage - Two Top-Box Storage compartments on either side of the cargo box provide a combined 3.5 cubic feet of weather resistant, lockable storage space.
• PRO-TEC composite - The Avalanche Midgate and tailgate are made of GM's new PRO-TEC composite materials. The composite material is exceptionally durable, and will resist dings.

Combining the power of the Vortec 5300 V8 engine that produces 285 peak horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque, and a three-section frame with hydroformed front and rear rails, Avalanche offers uncompromising power and toughness.
