Originally slated to arrive only with the 361-horsepower, 6.0-liter
V-8, it looks like Pontiac's 2010 G8 sport truck will also receive GM's
3.6-liter direct-injection V-6.
When we spoke with Pontiac marketing director Craig Bierley about the
controversial decision to name the sport truck the G8 ST last
week, we
also asked whether or not a final decision had been made to add the V-6
option to the Australian-built ute for U.S. buyers. Bierley told us then
that Pontiac was seriously considering the option, but that a final decision
hadn't been reached. Now, Edmunds is reporting otherwise.
Offering the V-6 at launch would likely save G8 sport-truck buyers money
over the V-8; the purchase price is likely to drop below $30K (we're
expecting a starting price of $31K for the V-8 version).
The 256-hp,
3.6-liter V-6 is expected to have EPA fuel economy ratings of 17/25
mpg city/highway. The V-6 runs on regular unleaded gasoline instead
of the pricier premium fuel that's required for optimal performance
from the V-8 version.
