IIHS Honors Toyota Tundra with Top Safety Pick Award

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safetey (IIHS) has honored the Toyota Tundra with its annual "Top Safety Pick" award.

It's the first time a pickup truck has won the award, which recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, and rear crashes based on ratings in the Institute's tests.

Winners also have to be equipped with electronic stability control (ESC), which IIHS research shows can significantly reduce the risk of crashing.

Earlier this year the Tundra was given the IIHS's top rating of 'Good' in frontal offset crash tests.
