Volkswagen
enthusiasts may be ticked off that VW of America has decided to pass
on bringing the new Scirocco to these shores, but buck up little cowboys.
Here's your consolation prize. Automotive News is reporting that India's
Mahindra & Mahindra
Ltd. is seriously considering selling diesel powered regular and crew
cab pickups in the U.S.A.
They're
so serious that Mahindra's execs scheduled a meeting with Georgia Governor
Sonny Perdue to explore manufacturing the trucks in the Peach State.
Building the trucks outside India, particularly stateside, would help
avoid the same 25% tarriff on foreign-built haulers that will
be phased out for the Koreans by
2017.
On Mahindra's
website,
its four cylinder diesel powered pickups are rated at 55-horsepower
and 118 lb-ft of torque.
A diesel
powered Indian 4-cylinder pickup that meets Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions.
We'll believe it when we see it.
