Next week
is Texas' annual state fair, where the latest pickups will be shown
to the most important truck market in the United States. But nearly
half a world away, a brand-new pickup will make its global debut in
Germany.
Volkswagen
Commercial Vehicles has announced the centerpiece of its display at
the 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover will be a concept
version of VW's upcoming pickup.
Rumored
to be called Robust or Taro II (after VW's Toyota Hilux-based pickups,
produced from 1989 to 1994), Volkswagen describes its new rig as a "one ton," but
spy photos put it more in what Americans consider to be the midsize
category.
The VW will be manufactured at Volkswagen's plant in Pacheco, Argentina,
starting in late 2009. Gas and diesel engines are expected to be available.
