Forbes.com is reporting, via Autoblog,
that Volkswagen AG has killed plans to sell its upcoming VW Robust
pickup in Europe due to record high fuel prices.
A
spokesperson from VW's truck unit said market conditions had "radically
changed", greatly reducing demand for the mid-size truck. The European
version was scheduled to be built at the VW plant in Hannover, Germany.
VW is still
planning to build 90,000 Robust pickups annually at its factory in
Pacheco, Argentina, for developing markets in South America and Latin
America. The truck is expected to have gasoline and diesel engine options.
