Redesigned and dubbed the New Passat, the latest version of Volkswagen's midsize sedan and wagon went on sale in February 2001 as a 2001.5 model. For the 2003 model year, Volkswagen's 170-horsepower, turbocharged 1.8-liter engine is standard in the GL trim level.
